Step 1: Insert an audio CD into your computer’s internal CD or DVD drive.
Step 2: When the list of songs appears in the iTunes window, deselect (remove the checkmark from) any songs you don’t want to import.
Note: If you’re not connected to the Internet or iTunes can’t find the CD’s information, songs appear as “Track 01,” “Track 02,” and so on. At this time, you should select a song or songs (hold down the Shift key to select multiple adjacent songs, or the Control key to select multiple nonadjacent songs), then choose Advanced > Get CD Track Names.
Step 3: To import the selected songs to your library, click the Import CD button (at the bottom of the iTunes window), then you can import songs to iTunes from CD.
To cancel importing, click the Cancel button next to the progress bar at the top of the iTunes window, then you cancel the process of importing the CD songs to iTunes. Any songs that iTunes imports before you cancel importing are added to your iTunes library.
Step 4: When the songs are finished importing, click the Eject symbol to the right of the CD.
Note: The default encoding format is AAC when you import CD to iTunes library. To change formats, see Choose import settings below:
1. Choose Edit > Preferences, click General, and click Import Settings.
2. Choose an encoder from the Import Using pop-up menu.
3. Choose a bit rate from the Setting pop-up menu (not available with Apple Lossless Encoder). In most cases, the default selection works well.
4. If you chose MP3 Encoder for importing CD to iTunes, choose one of the following from the Setting pop-up menu: Good Quality, High Quality, Higher Quality, Custom.
You can continue to use iTunes while importing songs to iTunes.
Tip: You can also import a song by dragging it to the Music playlist (below Library) to import CD to iTunes. You’ll see a green plus sign when it’s OK to stop dragging.
